Thank you for volunteering. This checklist will help you prepare for your shift, welcome guests, and keep the lines moving.
Most volunteers use a FrontDoor+ device provided at the gate. Some events use personal phones. Your organizer will tell you before your shift if you need to use your own phone.
Before you arrive
- Wear comfortable shoes and clothing suitable for the weather
- Charge your phone if you will be using it
- Review instructions from the organizer
- Confirm your shift time and where to meet your team lead
When you check in
- Meet the organizer or gate lead
- Pick up the FrontDoor+ scanner or POS device unless you are using your own
- Confirm whether you are scanning, handling POS or cash, or greeting guests
- Ask where to store personal items
- Locate the nearest washroom and water station before you need them
Before the gates open
- Open the FrontDoor+ Scanner App or FrontDoor+ POS App
- Confirm that you are logged in
- Check the device battery
- If using a card reader, turn it on and confirm it is connected
- Complete a sample scan or payment if the organizer provides one
- Review the event’s ticket types, such as Adult, Youth, and Weekend Pass
- If wristbands are used, review which colours match each ticket type
- Ask the team lead what to do when a guest asks a question you cannot answer
During your shift
- Greet guests with a friendly smile
- Scan tickets or take payments confidently
- Ask guests to have tickets ready to keep the line moving
- Enter cash sales accurately when working at POS
- Call the team lead immediately if something stops working
- Stay patient during busy periods
- Drink water and remember to stretch
Quick scanning tips
- Ask guests with phone tickets to increase the screen brightness
- Avoid scanning in direct sunlight when possible
- Hold the device steady for one second while it reads the QR code
- Do not worry about solving every issue. The organizer is there to help.
If a guest cannot find a ticket
Ask for the guest’s name and use Find a Guest in the Scanner App.
When your shift ends
- Tell the team lead that you are finished
- Return rented devices and equipment to the team lead
- Report any issues you noticed during the shift
- Thank the other volunteers and enjoy the event if you are staying
Thank you
Volunteers are the heartbeat of community events. Your time keeps everything running smoothly and helps guests have a great experience. The FrontDoor+ team is grateful for everything you do.
