Scammers sometimes comment on Facebook event posts claiming to have extra tickets. This guide explains how to avoid these scams and what to do if you purchased a fake ticket.
How to avoid ticket scams
Buy from the official event link
If an event uses FrontDoor+, the secure checkout page will always be on events.frontdoor.plus. Purchases made through the official link are valid.
View official FrontDoor+ events
Avoid buying tickets from Facebook comments
Scammers use comment sections because buyers may assume the comment is trustworthy when it appears on an official event post.
Do not trust screenshots of tickets
A valid ticket should come from the official FrontDoor+ system. Scammers may send the same screenshot to several people.
Watch for common warning signs
- A brand-new or incomplete Facebook profile
- No real photos or very few friends
- Pressure to buy quickly
- Refusal to meet in person
- Requests for e-transfer or gift cards
If you purchased a fake ticket
Report the Facebook profile
Use Facebook’s Report Profile and Report Comment tools to help stop the scam.
Contact your bank or credit card company
Explain that you paid a fraudulent seller. Your financial institution may be able to reverse the charge.
Save your screenshots
Keep copies of:
- The Facebook conversation
- The seller’s profile
- The ticket images the seller sent you
Your bank or credit card company may ask for these records.
Tell the event organizer
Organizers appreciate knowing when fake sellers are targeting their guests. They may also warn others on the event page.
